Choosing Intimacy

MESSAGE NOTES

“YADA” – to know and be known

- God knows us

Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain…  Genesis 4:1

1 O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.  2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.  3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.  4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD.    Psalm 139

- God wants us to know him

Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.   John 17:3

- Knowing about God and Knowing God is what separates Fans and Followers

Luke 7:36-50

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’  Matthew 7

THINK ABOUT IT

God knows us.  Does this make you uncomfortable OR give you a sense of relief?  Why?

If we resist ‘intimacy’ with God – our default is to either accumulate knowledge about God OR run to religious performace.  Have you seen people do this to avoid truly knowing God?  Have you done this?

What is the danger to knowing the right information and doing religious activities?  (Refer to Matthew 7:21-23)

True followers of Jesus risk vulnerability and respond to him in worship.  How can you take another step closer to him today?
